I started woodworking around the age of 14 and became interested in playing the mandolin at 15. In 1977 I hit the road as a semi professional player and continued until 2004. Had the good fortune to be able to travel the country and even played the Grand Ol' Opry a couple times during the 1980's. Won the Virginia state mandolin championship twice in 1995 and 1996. Built my first real mandolin in 1998 which I am still playing. All that being said I believe I know what a mandolin should sound like and how it should be set up for optimum tone and playability. I strive to build mandolins that can be used for the pro or those just starting out that want a professional instrument. I have rebuilt and restored many old gibson mandolins and offer repair and setup as well as full custom builds.
